Bruhn’s South Australian limestone blocks and South Australian limestone cladding offer the prestige and visual appeal of premium natural stone without the cost associated with many imported alternatives.

Colour and tone

As a natural material, Mount Gambier limestone varies in colour according to the quarry strata, or geological layer, from which it is cut. Bruhn Limestone is supplied in three tonal colours:

  • Light Cream
  • Cream – a balanced mid-tone cream
  • Dark Cream – a warmer biscuit tone

With more than 80 years in business, Bruhn Limestone provides versatile stone formats that can be used for façades, walls, feature areas and architectural details.

Natural limestone blocks, veneers and cladding

Mount Gambier limestone is available in solid block and veneer cladding formats to suit a wide range of residential and commercial applications. As both a limestone blocks and limestone cladding supplier, Bruhn Limestone can help homeowners, architects and builders select a format suited to the design intent, construction method and finished appearance of the project.

Solid ashlar limestone blocks

Bruhn’s Mount Gambier limestone blocks are often used for construction, structural walls and traditional masonry. Available in depths from 100mm to 240mm, solid ashlar blocks are suitable for:

  • Traditional double- and single-skin masonry
  • Structural load-bearing walls
  • Residential and commercial construction

As a experienced limestone blocks supplier, Bruhn Limestone provides locally quarried South Australian limestone blocks with the natural tonal variation that gives limestone its distinctive appearance.

Limestone veneer cladding

Bruhn’s limestone cladding is a natural stone cladding format that creates the appearance of solid limestone without the depth, weight or cost of full blockwork. Suitable for interior and exterior applications, Mount Gambier limestone cladding can add depth and character to façades, fireplaces, feature walls, entrances and existing walls across residential and commercial projects.

Limestone veneer cladding is available in:

  • 35mm thickness
  • 50mm thickness
  • Matching L-shaped corner stones to replicate the appearance of full limestone blocks

Face finishes

Three distinct face finishes — Plainface, Rockface and Bevel Edge — are offered across the ashlar block and veneer range. A fourth finish, Rusticated, is hand-profiled on site.

Plainface

A smooth, flat-faced stone, cut with diamond-tipped saws. Plainface limestone is ideal for creating crisp contemporary lines or elegant classical designs across both block and cladding applications.

Rockface

A textured stone finish created by splitting the limestone with a hydraulic guillotine. Rockface has a rugged, fractured face that adds depth, shadow and timeless character.

Bevel Edge - Plainface Collection

A smooth Plainface limestone block featuring a precision-cut 10mm chamfer on the top and base edges. The bevel edge creates subtle horizontal shadow lines between each course, adding definition to the masonry.

Available in block heights 240mm & 290mm, and all standard depths: 120mm, 150mm, 200mm & 240mm on request.

Rusticated - Plainface Collection

A smooth Plainface limestone block with a 25mm square groove notched out along the top course. This finish is hand-profiled on site by independent stonemasons according to design specifications.

Notes

Width refers to mortar bedding surface (rockface may overhang approx. 20mm)

290mm course height ≈ 5 ashlar courses per m² (including 10mm joints)

240mm course height ≈ 6 ashlar courses per m² (including 10mm joints)

All square metre calculations include standard 10mm mortar joints

Decorative moulds are supplied per linear metre (refer mould section)

Frogged ashlar options available for 5mm joint finish

What are the benefits of natural Mount Gambier Limestone?

Construction efficiency

Larger than standard bricks and manufactured to consistent dimensions, Bruhn limestone blocks are fast and efficient to install. The stone also provides a finished architectural surface without the need for render or paint, helping reduce ongoing maintenance and finishing costs.

Low embodied energy

Sourced locally from South Australia’s Limestone Coast, Bruhn limestone requires minimal processing compared with many manufactured building materials. Its low carbon profile, combined with exceptional durability, supports sustainable construction and long-term building performance.

Perfect pairings

Bruhn limestone blocks and cladding can be combined with a range of complementary stone elements to create a cohesive architectural language.

Thermal mass

Natural limestone provides excellent thermal performance by absorbing heat during the day and releasing it gradually at night. This passive temperature regulation helps keep interiors cooler in summer and warmer in winter, reducing overall energy demand.

Acoustic insulation

The natural density of solid limestone provides excellent acoustic separation, helping reduce external noise and create quieter, more comfortable living and working environments.

Fire safety

Limestone is a non-combustible natural material capable of achieving fire resistance levels of up to FRL 120/120/120, making it highly suitable for residential and commercial projects, including those in bushfire-prone areas.

What is the difference between limestone cladding and limestone veneer?

Limestone cladding is the broader term for a natural stone finish applied over a wall or substrate, while limestone veneer refers to the thinner stone pieces used to create that finish.

Bruhn Limestone supplies limestone veneer in 35mm and 50mm thicknesses, allowing architects, builders and homeowners to achieve the appearance of solid limestone with a lighter stone format.
