Limestone is surprisingly affordable
Do you use the same mortar mix as brickwork?
We recommend a white brickie sand mixed at 6 parts sand, 1 part white cement and 1 part lime. We can also supply limestone dust that can be mixed with the mortar to blend the colour closer to that of the natural stone.
Do I need to allow for a different type of foundation for limestone than brick?
No, construction with BRUHN Limestone is the same as traditional brick.
Do I need to put in expansion joints with stone?
The properties of Limestone has little expansion or contraction, however it is recommended that expansion joints be put in place.
Do I need a qualified stonemason to lay the limestone?
We recommend that you use qualified tradesman only, and we can supply a list of stonemasons in your area. We also offer onsite training for a bricklayer who is laying limestone for the first time.
Is limestone recommended below ground level?
We recommend that you do the build up to damp course level out of brick or block. This may require one or two courses of brickwork to slab height and can be rendered to the stone colour.
What is the best way to attach carports or any other fixtures to the limestone?
Any fixing into limestone needs to be a plug and screw method or chemical fixings like Chemsets. Do not use Dyna Bolts as if over tightened they will work loose over time.
Does limestone need to be sealed?
Yes, we recommend our limestone to be sealed, and recommend our own product BRUHN Rock Seal.
How is BRUHN Rock Seal applied and when does limestone need to be resealed?
Sealant can be sprayed on using a painter’s airless spray gun applying two coats wet on wet, or alternatively one heavy flood coat. We recommend re-coating every 7‒10 years.
What is the composition of the BRUHN Rock Seal?
BRUHN Rock Seal is a water based acrylic with a silicon additive. It is milky white liquid that has a mild odor and is easy to use.
Can I specifically design my own decorative moulds?
BRUHN Limestone supply a large range of standard moulds utilising their own factory cutter heads. If a client wishes to use a certain design outside of this range, there maybe an additional cost to the client for the design and purchase of the steel cutter head.
How is the limestone delivered?
Each pallet of stone is strapped and shrink wrapped for delivery direct to site by BRUHN Limestone trucks with all terrain forklift equipment. However this can vary depending on site access.
